First announcement

Dear colleague,

the assembly of the 14th IBRC in Merida, Mexico, decided that the 15th IBRC will be held in Czech Republic, the country from which the tradition of the International Bat Research Conferences arose. The first IBRC organized by Vladimir Hanak and Jiri Gaisler in 1968 was unfortunately badly affected by the intervention of foreign armies. Yet, times have changed and there is a good hope to believe that the situation will not appear again.

The Conference will take place in Prague and will be hosted by the Faculty of Science,Charles University and Czech University of Life Sciences , the latter providing the venue for the meeting at its modern campus  on the outskirts of the city. The campus is equipped with all standard facilities and also provides cheap accommodation in student dormitories. Hotels of all categories are available in close vicinity of the campus and shuttle buses will be operated to and from the Conference venue. The conference fee will be about 250 EUR, with major discounts for students and participants from developing countries.

We believe that the Prague Conference will provide not only a pleasant environment for a rich scientific programme and vivid social life but that it will also become a platform for balancing particular views of the current state of the discipline, discussions on the major conceptual and methodological turn-arounds that have appeared during the first decade of this century, and the future of bat research throughout the World.

Apart from that, Prague, a beatiful historical city and a very popular tourist destination, is well worth of a visit - you can just prolong your stay in Prague (using the cheap Conference accommodation) or choose from a spectrum of the sight-seeings provided for accompanying persons. In any case, the Czech Republic is a wonderful country rich in natural and cultural monuments, top quality beer (genuine Pilsner from Pilsen, real Budweiser from Budweis) and in general, friendly to its visitors.

We are looking forward to meet you next August in Prague!

On behalf of the Organizing Committee: Ivan Horacek
